CBC BMP ALT ALP Bilirubin CRP
Monospot test
EBV antibody consider if high suspicion, negative monospot test
Serology for CMV, toxoplasmosis, VIH, hepatitis A-B-C, syphilis
Throat culture
Leave of absence
Adequate hydratation
Acetaminophen, NSAIDs
Prednisone 30-50 mg orally daily tapered over 10-14 days or Dexamethasone 0.3 mg/kg (up to 10 mg) oral for severe odynophagia or airway compromise
Avoid strenuous exercise and contact sports x 3-4 weeks
Follow up in 2 weeks, or before if worsen, airway obstruction, LUQ pain
